Celebrating Art and Culture at CJ.
Today, we unveiled the CJ Library Mural by Kevin Bynder, a striking tribute to culture, connection, and Country. This powerful piece, surrounded by the six Noongar seasons, reflects strength, journey, and community. The mural begins with CJ and a coat of arms, where kangaroo and emu tracks symbolise resilience. Circles representing Years 7–12 mark the path of learning, with Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) flowing through its heart. Above, Sandy Beach and standing ancestors honour our past, while traditional tools like spears, boomerangs, and shields speak to the courage of those who defended the land. On one side, long-neck turtles; on the other, red-tailed black cockatoos signal the coming rain. At its core, the sun burns bright, a giver of life, with the moon and stars above guiding us through the ages.
This mural is more than just art — it’s story, spirit, and survival.
We thank all our guests for attending the unveiling and a huge thank you to Chef Daniel Lyndon of Bimba Foods and the Hospitality Team at Jackson’s Café for the delicious lunch that followed the unveiling.
We are proud to honour our rich cultural heritage and the stories that shape our community.
About the Mural
This striking Aboriginal mural is a deep and moving tribute to culture, connection, and Country. Encircled by the six Noongar seasons each marking change and renewal it begins with CJ and a powerful coat of arms, where kangaroo and emu tracks symbolise strength and journey. Circles for Years 7–12 represent the path of learning and community. Flowing through the centre is Derbarl Yerrigan, the Swan River—a lifeblood of Country with Sandy Beach above, where ancestors stand watch: males upright, females lying in timeless rest. Below, sacred burial grounds honour those who came before. Traditional tools spears, boomerangs, shields speak to the courage of ancestors who defended their land at Success Hill. On one side, long-neck turtles; on the other, red-tailed black cockatoos herald the coming rain. At the heart of it all burns the sun the great giver of life while the moon and stars above guide us, just as they have for generations.
This mural is not just art — it’s story, spirit, and survival.
