Testament from a CJ student parent.
“My son enrolled at Cyril Jackson Senior Campus as a Year 11 in Semester 2, 2021. He was stressed, disheartened, overwhelmed and lacking confidence in himself. From the moment of enrolling, he felt he was part of an extended family.
A year and a half later he is a happy, confident young man. He has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Cyril Jackson SC and said to me just yesterday that he would miss all of the staff. He has said, and I quote: “the teachers care”, “the teachers are happy and actually want to be in class”, and “the teachers are fair and reasonable about their expectations”. My husband and I are thrilled with the progress he has made over the last year and a half.
My son has autism and from the moment he set foot on the campus he said that he felt like he belonged. It is the first time he has ever felt that he fitted in anywhere. In the week or so since Year 12 classes have ceased my son has independently applied to TAFE, written job applications and with the help of a wonderful reference from one his teachers been able to secure part-time employment.
I am very grateful for the time and effort that the staff have put into supporting and encouraging him. The school made a difference to him: as you say “CJ changes lives”.”
