IEC Pathways

Why enrol in the IEC?
The IEC at Cyril Jackson is an important part of the mainstream school and promotes respectful, cross-cultural relationships. As well as learning English for maths, science and humanities subjects, students participate in specialist subject areas such as physical education, art and woodwork.
Our IEC has over 20 experienced teachers who specialise in English as an additional language, including specialist maths, science and humanities teachers. We also have specialist classrooms, including science and computer labs. We employ over nine ethnic education assistants who speak more than 15 languages between them and who support students to learn English.
Our program provides strong student support, with a student services coordinator and a specialist IEC psychologist who can help students with a wide range of issues including budgeting, housing, and emotional well-being. We also have extensive links with external agencies who support our students.
Who can enrol in the IEC?
To be eligible for enrolment in an IEC, students must require intensive English language support and be in their first year of learning SAE in Australia, or the first two years for students from a humanitarian background. Cyril Jackson IEC enrols students aged from 16 to 20 years. Students who are returning to Australia after time in another country may also be eligible.
