On 12th March 2020, IEC 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 went on an excursion to Australia’s largest annual outdoor sculpture exhibition, Sculptures by the Sea, at Cottesloe beach.
They met their teachers and education assistants at Ashfield station in the morning and caught the train together to Cottesloe. Students walked along the beach and had a marvelous time viewing and photographing the various sculptures on display. While they explored, students recorded their feelings about different sculptures and the scenery around them, and they were able to do some great recounts of the excursion once they were back at school.
For many of our newly arrived students, this was their first experience of visiting the beach in Australia, so this was the perfect opportunity for them to learn about sun protection (Slip, Slop, Slap!) and beach safety. This excursion also improved students’ skills in using public transport, and helped them understand how to get to one of Perth’s most famous beaches.
