Doctor, Scientist and Biotech Leader
Dr. Danielle Meyrick is a doctor, scientist, and biotech leader who has dedicated her career to developing new ways of treating cancer. In 1984, her journey began at Cyril Jackson Senior High School, where she developed a love of learning and a curiosity about how things work. At school, Danielle especially enjoyed physics and physical education, subjects that gave her a balance of intellectual challenge and physical discipline. She also proudly served as House Captain, a role that taught her the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and supporting others. Looking back, she credits those early experiences — balancing study with sport and leadership — as the foundation for the resilience and determination needed in her later career.
After graduating from high school, Danielle pursued her passion for science by studying extractive metallurgy and chemistry at university, where she completed an Honours degree before later going on to study medicine. Her interest in how discoveries in the lab could be translated into real benefits for patients led her to complete a PhD prior to her medical training. This unique combination of medicine and research gave her the tools to not only care for patients but also to push the boundaries of what treatments are possible.
Danielle’s career has taken her around the world, working at the cutting edge of healthcare and biotechnology. She has specialised in the development of radiopharmaceuticals — medicines that use tiny radioactive particles to precisely target and treat cancer. These therapies allow doctors to deliver radiation directly to cancer cells while sparing healthy tissue, offering new hope to patients with few other options.
Over the years, she has led international teams bringing these therapies from the laboratory into clinical trials, helping to shape how they are tested and delivered to patients. She has written more than 50 scientific publications and technical reports and has held senior leadership positions, including serving as Chief Medical Officer at global radiopharmaceutical companies. As Chief Medical Officer, she is responsible for overseeing clinical development worldwide, guiding projects from their earliest stages all the way through to patient care.
Danielle is also the Co-Founder and Principal Consultant of EPIC Theranostics, an Australian company that advises and supports the development of new cancer therapies. Through this work, she helps biotech companies design clinical trials, navigate complex regulations, and bring promising new treatments to patients faster.
Beyond her scientific and medical achievements, Danielle is passionate about mentorship and leadership. The skills she first began developing as House Captain — motivating a team, supporting others, and leading by example — remain at the heart of her professional life. She is committed to inspiring the next generation of scientists, doctors, and innovators, encouraging young people to explore how their interests and strengths can shape meaningful careers.
For Danielle, the most rewarding part of her journey has been knowing that her work can make a difference in the lives of people with cancer and their families. Danielle is incredibly proud of her time at Cyril Jackson, and more than anything, remembers the joy and satisfaction of academic and sporting pursuits, the strong and supportive teachers, and the truly wonderful friendships made. She believes the roles taken on at school, and the challenges embraced can all become stepping stones to an exciting and impactful future.
